LIPA to vote on the future of the LI Offshore Wind Park |
|
The Long Island Power Authority, on October 2, 2007 at 11:00 AM, will vote whether to continue the review process for the Long Island Offshore Wind Park or abandon the project altogether. LET YOUR VOICE BE HEARD! In recent documents it has been revealed that the offshore wind park would cost the typical residential consumer $2.50 a month or $30 a year. Long Island can be the first in the Nation to host an offshore wind project. Long Island can become a leader in America's Energy Independence future. Long Island can enjoy the benefits of clean, non-polluting energy. |

Response to Newsday story on wind integration |
The American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) has issued a response to a October 30, 2006 story in Newsday “Study Takes Air out of Wind Power’s Sails”.
The response states that
"Newsday’ s October 30, 2006 article ...presents as news what is in fact an out-of-step report that has been packaged with an alarmist sales pitch by a UK-based firm, ABS Energy Research."
"A steadily growing body of studies, data, and experience, both in the Europe and in the U.S., show that while wind's variable output does present challenges, these can be successfully managed -- with benefits for consumers, the environment, and even the resilience of overall electricity supply."

A Conversation with Jens Larsen, Copenhagen Environment and Energy Office |
On August 31, 2006, Renewable Energy Long Island (RELI) and WindWorks Long Island sponsored the first ever Danish offshore wind seminar at the Huntington Cinema Arts Centre with Mr. Jens Larsen of the Copenhagen Environment and Energy Office. Mr. Larsen traveled from Denmark to the US, stopping on Cape Cod and Long Island to host a unique and important discussion about wind energy and his experience with the Middelgrunden Offshore Wind Farm in Copenhagen.
Mr. Larsen engaged his audience in an informative presentation and discussion which addressed many concerns from residents and elected leaders regarding the future of offshore wind power for Long Island. He is shown here accepting a County Proclamation for his promotion of wind energy in Europe and the US from Suffolk County Legislator Jon Cooper.
