08/31/2006 - Offshore Wind Power - A European Perspective Mr. Jens Larsen, Environment and Energy Adviser of the Copenhagen Environment and Energy Office will give a talk and answer questions about the Danish experience with offshore wind turbines. He was instrumental in making the Middelgrunden offshore wind farm a reality for Copenhagen, Denmark. This facility now generates 40 MW of electricity for the residents of Copenhagen.

Directions:
Driving from the west: L.I.E. east to Exit 49N or Northern State east to Exit 40 to Rte. 110 North. Follow 110 to Rte. 25A, Main Street. Make a right turn. The third traffic light will be Park Ave. Make a right turn. CAC is the first driveway on the right hand side, 100 yards south of 25A.
Driving from the east: L.I.E. west to exit 51. Make right turn off service road or take Northern State west to Exit 42 North, Huntington, Rte. 35 (Rte. 35 becomes Park Ave. after Jericho Turnpike). Proceed to L.I.R.R. crossing, then go three traffic lights. Just after the third light, CAC is the first driveway on the left.
Taking the train: From Penn Station, 34th Street and 7th Avenue, take the LIRR, Port Jefferson Branch. Get off at Huntington. Train schedule is available at Penn Station, or call516-231-LIRR (718-217-LIRR). An off-peak round-trip ticket costs around $14.50 (one-way: $7.25 / peak one-way: $10.25). From the station, the easiest way to get to the Cinema is to take a cab (roughly $5.00).

07/10/2006 - Offshore Wind Park EIS Scoping Meetings The Interior Department’s Minerals Management Service (MMS) will hold two public scoping meetings on Long Island, New York in July 2006 to obtain comments from the public on the proposed Long Island Offshore Wind Project (LIOWP).
The meetings are scheduled in accordance with the environmental scoping process mandated by the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and are the first step in the development of an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the project.
The meetings will be held on Monday, July 10 and Tuesday, July 11 beginning at 7 PM.
Registration for each meeting will begin on site at 5:30 p.m.

04/27/2005 - Lecture on Offshore Wind Initiative As part of the 2005 Seatuck Lecture Series, Kathleen Whitley, Project Director of the Long Island Offshore Wind Initiative, will be giving a presentation entitled 'Is the Answer Really Blowin' in the Wind? The Proposed Long Island Offshore Wind Initiative.' A coalition of local and national organizations, together with the Long Island Power Authority, have proposed to install the nation's first major wind farm off the coast of Robert Moses State Park. This presentation will outline the details of this unprecedented proposal and what it might mean for Long Island’s energy future and environmental quality.
